Welp, this is not how I had hoped to reveal the Quru, but oh well.

I have bad news and bad-sorta good news.

yah, so the bad news is that my first attempt at the Quru failed. See pics above. My poor birdy.

The bad-sorta good news is that I have to postpone my surgery. A few days ago, I was getting ready to pay the physician fee of 481.75 when they dropped the bombshell on me that I would also have to pay 2000.00 for the facility fee. If they had told me that when I was at the appointment scheduling the surgery then I would have told them that, wow,  I cant do this right now, I am not made of money.
So the sorta good news is that my shop will remain open and not go into vacation mode this month.
If things work out I can reschedule the surgery for sometime in march.

So after all of that happened, I went ahead and made a mold of the Quru using Rebound 25 and mold star 15. This was my first time making a reversible mold instead of a sleeve mold. A day after making the mold I decided to pour my first Quru, I thought I had adequately coated the inside of the mold with ease release 200. But nope, I did not.
The demolding process was frustrating and painful. I just wasted almost 5 Droths worth of silicone.

After demolding the Quru I just put it down, walked away, and went to take a shower.

I hate the feeling of failure.

I spent the next day in denial. I didn’t even want to look at it. The day after that I was starting to feel better and finally went over and picked the Quru up, gave it a few squishes and started to examine my mistakes. I realized that not all is lost. The mold might be salvageable and the original sculpt is undamaged ( except for the feathers) I can remake the feathers, better and with less small detail for easier demolding.

Everything will be okay. Its something I gotta tell myself a lot.

I am not sure when I will get a chance to continue working on it. But I will complete this monster bird someday. I will have my Quru!

monstermaxim:

Base preview and some quick Quru specs:

From base to tip the Quru is about 12 inches long

Circumference of first spiral 5 inches

Circumference of second, 6 inches

Circumference of third 7.5 inches

Circumference of fourth 10 inches

I will be able to provide better sizing when its actually in silicone form.

Even though January is going to be a hard month for me, I still hope to have this bird done and cast by the end of it.
