a pride month reminder that unless they have the policy and concrete actions to back up their PR and pretty rainbow products, politicians and businesses are not ur friend
when a business only sells rainbow products during june and doesn’t have any information on whether they donate the proceeds, then they’re actively profiting off the lgbt community they know will buy their shit. if a business or organization proclaims they support pride groups but they fire lgbt employees, tolerate homophobic/transphobic behaviour or anything like that, it’s just pinkwashing. if a politician, government or political party talks about supporting lgbt rights and attends pride parades but doesn’t implement any (meaningful) policy or listen to groups like lgbt organizations (or black lives matter, etc) then they don’t actually care about you! they’re taking advantage of people who are marginalized and often ignored , and counting on you to not look past their carefully written speeches and the rainbow flags they wave.
PR =/= policy or action! support lgbt-owned businesses instead, vote for politicians who have a history of good policy and practices.
